MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – No. 7-ranked William Carey (Miss.) rolled into town on Saturday to take on Brewton-Parker Men's Soccer for a Southern States Athletic Conference meeting.
The Barons (1-9-0, 0-5-0 SSAC) fell to the Crusaders (11-1-1, 6-0-0 SSAC) in a 4-1 defeat.
"The first sixty minutes we were the architects of our own downfall," Head Coach
Bob Neumann said. "Too many errors that we gifted to WCU. However, our second half performance is something to build from."
"The boys showed attitude, togetherness, and some belief," Neumann mentioned. "Looking forward to getting back to work."
How It Happened | First Half
William Carey opened the match by attacking heavily against Brewton-Parker, recording four corners and two attempts towards goal within the first eight minutes of play. The Crusaders eventually broke through in the 10th minute with a goal coming from a poor clearance from the Barons.
WCU added another to the tally at the 16:23 mark to move to a two-goal advantage before knocking in a third in the 20th minute. BPC's lone attempt in the first half came off the foot of
Jimmy Pacheco Jr. as his shot sailed high and wide of the target.
How It Happened | Second Half
Unfortunately, William Carey opened the second half with a fourth goal at the 51:07 mark to lead 4-0. However, the remainder of the second half was much tighter between the two sides as the Barons managed to produce some more offensive opportunities with some tactical shifts in the lineup.
Rayane Sid Ahmed began to push forward in the attack for BPC and tallied a shot at 64:15 but missed just left of the post. That was the lone attempt for Brewton-Parker for a while until
Niles Omondi rocketed a shot from about 30 yards in the 82nd minute which was knocked away by the WCU keeper.
Kalifa Dabo had himself a shot in the 83rd minute but was unsuccessful as well. The Barons were gifted a penalty shot in the 86th minute which
Manny Marin managed to convert for BPC's lone goal of the game.
