Barons Drop Senior Night Match Against Skyhawks

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Brewton-Parker Men's Soccer team took on Point (Ga.) at home on Thursday night.

The Barons (1-10, 0-6 SSAC) dropped the match against the Skyhawks (1-8, 1-5 SSAC) by a score of 3-1.

"We lacked conviction and composure," said Head Coach Bob Neumann "A decent performance in the first 45, completely overshadowed by the immature performance in the second."

"We didn't work hard enough to close down spaces, we didn't tackle firmly, nor did we knock the ball around properly," Coach Neumann added. "The young guys have a lot of growing to do if we're going to get moving in the right direction."

How It Happened | First Half

The Skyhawks started the game with two shots within the first two minutes of the game. Luckily, Jake McCarthy was able to save both shots. The Barons had their first opportunities to score in the 7th and 10th minutes, with shots from Niles Omondi and Justin Garcia.

Jose Sanchez had a chance to break the tie for the Barons, with a shot in the 26th minute of the game that was saved by the Skyhawks' keeper. The Barons kept pressure on the Skyhawks with two shots in the 29th minute, one from Jimmy Pacheco Jr. and another from Manny Marin.

Marin had another opportunity to score in the 40th minute of the game, but unfortunately, the Barons went into halftime in a scoreless draw with the Skyhawks.
The Barons and Skyhawks took six shots each, but the Skyhawks outplayed the Barons 5-2 on shots on goal.

How It Happened | Second Half

The Barons started the second half putting pressure on the Skyhawks with a shot in the 47th minute of the game from Pacheco Jr. The Pressure was not enough as the Skyhawks broke the scoreless draw with a goal in the 53rd minute, and then found the back of the net again in the 57th minute, making the score 2-0.

The Barons had a chance to cut the lead to one, with a shot from Darren Stewart in the 65th minute that was saved by the Skyhawk keeper. The Skyhawks went on the counterattack, finding the back of the net and extending their lead to three.

After conceding the goal, Kalifa Dabo had an opportunity to put BPC on the board in the 71st minute but was not able to score. In the 80th minute of the game, Point committed a foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick. Marin was tasked with taking the PK for the Barons.

Marin was able to get the ball past the keeper and into the goal, cutting the Skyhawk's lead by one and ending the game 3-1.
