Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Clayton Barefield - Director of Athletic Communications

Barons Slip in 2-0 Loss to No. 18-Ranked Running Eagles

MARIETTA, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Men's Soccer traveled to Marietta, Ga. on Sunday evening to resume Southern States Athletic Conference play with a challenge at Life (Ga.).

The Barons (1-7, 0-3 SSAC) slipped to the No. 18-ranked Running Eagles (4-1-2, 2-0-1 SSAC) in a two-goal defeat on the road.

"We were set up to frustrate Life and we were successful in the first half," Head Coach Bob Neumann said. "We concede too many goals inside five minutes of a restart and even the top teams struggle to overcome those challenges. With that said, we did better defensively, and it gives us a platform to build on moving forward."

How It Happened | First Half

Brewton-Parker held their own in the first half, denying Life from taking advantage of potential scoring opportunities as Andrea Abwe notched three saves in the first 45 minutes of play. The Running Eagles totaled eight shots overall while attempts from Justin Garcia and Manny Marin missed the mark for BPC.

How It Happened | Second Half

The Running Eagles managed to break through the scoreless affair, firing a shot to the back of the net in the 51st minute. Abwe denied a Life attempt at the 53:22 mark to keep the match at just one goal.

Rayane Sid Ahmed was credited with one of two shots in the second half in the 67th minute but it sailed wide. Sid Ahmed gave BPC a chance at leveling the match at the 78:39 mark but his chance was denied by the Life goalkeeper.

Life found the back of the net once more in the 84th minute to take a two-goal edge over the Barons with Abwe recording one final save nearing the 90-minute mark to keep the Running Eagles from advancing further.
