Lady Barons Fall Short Against Shorter in Home Opener

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Brewton-Parker College Women's Soccer team faced Shorter (Ga.) for their 2023 home opener.

The Lady Barons (0-1) fell short against Hawks (1-1) in a 3-1 loss.    

"Defensively we executed well in the first half," Head Coach Phillip Borde. "Our shape was disciplined and caused the other team problems."

"We made some errors in certain places on the field where you pay for that by conceding goals," Borde mentioned. "We showed promise going forward and we will continue to build on the positive aspects from the match. It is going to be fun once everyone starts clicking."

How It Happened | First Half

The Lady Barons started off the game on the defensive side of things, not having their first shot until the 23rd minute by Beata Chako. Chako would go on to have another shot on goal in the 36th minute of the game.

In the 38th minute of the game, the Hawks would break the scoreless tie with a goal. McKenzie Tucker would close out the first half with her own shot on goal in the 42nd minute.

The Lady Barons were outplayed in the first half 10-3 in overall shots and 4-3 shots on goal.

How It Happened | Second Half

The Lady Barons had a rough start to the second half, letting in goals in the 49th and 55th minutes to fall behind 3-0. Chako would provide a small spark for the BPC offense at the 59:18 mark, netting a goal with help from Olivia Cason to bring the game to 3-1.  

Following the goal, Brewton-Parker's offensive chances slowed tremendously as Bailey Brandly's shot in the 60th minute was the final opportunity for the Lady Barons.

  • Shorter led 21-5 in shots and 12-4 in shots on goal.
  • Naphtaline Clermeus gathered nine saves in her BPC debut.
  • Chako led the team in with four total shots, including the lone goal.
