(RV) Faulkner Too Much for Men’s Soccer in SSAC Opener

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – After a two-hour delay forcing kick-off to 9 p.m. ET, the Brewton-Parker Men's Soccer program began Southern States Athletic Conference play on Thursday night with a matchup against (RV) Faulkner (Ala.) in Mount Vernon.

The Barons (1-4-0, 0-1-0 SSAC) fell to the Eagles (6-0-1, 1-0-0) on home soil in a tough 5-0 defeat with four goals finding the net in the second half.

"Tonight, we were outplayed," Head Coach Bob Neumann said. "We showed no energy to close down spaces or make things difficult for Faulkner."

"It was a shameful performance and I apologize to those that came to support such a lackluster side," Neumann added. "You deserve more for your time and effort."

How It Happened | First Half

In the first half, Faulkner controlled possession and took care of the ball when needed. The Eagles led 7-1 in total shots before cracking the 0-0 draw at the 36:05 mark to take a 1-0 lead, finding the back of the net off the foot of Julio Souza.

BPC's lone shot of the half was a header from Kalifa Dabo finding the frame but being saved by the visiting keeper. Faulkner totaled just two shots on goal versus the Barons' one from Dabo.

How It Happened | Second Half

The floodgates opened for Souza and the Eagles as Faulkner managed to bag two goals in swift fashion, scoring in the 52nd and 53rd minutes to take a 3-0 lead.

BPC's lone shot on goal for the half came from Johnny Artiaga Trejo in the 65th minute but his shot was denied by the Faulkner goalie.

Souza netted one final goal in the 69th for his fourth of the match before the Eagles concluded the game with a score from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute.

Faulkner led 14-5 total shots for the half while also leading 8-1 in shots on goal.
