Night Hawks Surpass Barons in 17-10 Loss

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker hosted Thomas (Ga.) for a single nine-inning contest on Tuesday afternoon.

The Barons (9-12) were surpassed by the Night Hawks (9-14) in a 17-10 loss in Mount Vernon.

How It Happened

Thomas struck early with a pair of runs in the first inning followed by a four-run inning in the top half of the second to take an early 6-0 lead. The Barons responded with two hits and a run in the bottom of the third as Jack Morris connected for a leadoff homer to left field to cut the deficit back by one.

After the visitors scored a run in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings to move to a 9-1 lead, Brewton-Parker pieced together three hits and took advantage of an error from the Night Hawks to score five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Jacob Mantooth reached on an error to lead the inning off before Brandon Lawrence reached on a walk. Drew DeMasi then connected for a single to load the bases. Carson Kirby then connected for a three-RBI double before Morris jacked another home run recording two RBIs to move the Barons to a three-run deficit.

In the seventh, Thomas produced two hits and pushed across a run to advance to a 10-6 lead before adding five runs to the tally off three hits in the top of the eighth to jump out to a 15-6 edge.

After a scoreless eighth for the Barons, Thomas tallied two more runs in the ninth inning to lead 17-6. It was too little too late for the Barons as BPC notched four hits to score four runs in the bottom of the ninth to cut the deficit down to 17-10.
