NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Barons traveled to New Orleans for a weekend series at No. 15 Loyola (La.) to continue SSAC action. Friday's scheduled doubleheader was forced to just one game due to inclement weather, shifting the series schedule around.
The Barons (9-13, 1-3 SSAC) fell to the Wolf Pack (16-8, 3-1 SSAC) in a tough 15-1 loss in seven innings.
How It Happened
Eduardo Castillo connected for a two-out single to open the game but was left on base in the first inning while
Kyran Coleman notched a two-out double in the third but was also left on. After a scoreless two innings to open the game, the Wolf Pack put together five hits while taking advantage of an error from the Barons to hang six runs on the scoreboard.
Brewton-Parker left a pair of runners on base in the fourth inning as Castillo produced another base hit followed by a walk from
Drew DeMasi. After successfully holding the Barons back, Loyola tallied seven additional runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning, utilizing four hits.
The Barons eventually added a run to the board as
Tate Worrell connected for a leadoff double in the fifth inning followed by a sacrifice bunt from
Malik Germany and a ground out from
Carson Kirby to advance Worrell home. Coleman also tallied a hit before the close of the inning.
Loyola closed things out with two more runs in the bottom of the six while tacking on three more hits to secure a 15-1 advantage to seal the door shut on the Barons.
Inside the Statistics
- Loyola led 12-5 in hits.
- Both Coleman and Castillo led BPC with a pair of hits each while Kirby gathered the lone RBI.
- Three arms were on the mound for Brewton-Parker with Ty Cook earning the start, tossing for three innings. He gave up eight earned runs while striking out three batters.
- Bryce Morley came in for two innings, giving up four earned runs while striking out five batters.
- Lastly, Carter McWilliams wrapped up the game with the final inning of action, recording two strikeouts and just one hit.
