MOBILE, Ala. – Brewton-Parker baseball traveled to Mobile, Alabama to take on No. 8-ranked Mobile for the first two games of the SSAC road weekend series.
The Barons (9-25, 1-13 SSAC) slipped in both games to the Rams (23-6, 9-2 SSAC), dropping a 9-0 loss and an 8-4 loss.
How It Happened | G1 – BPC 0, UM 9
In the opening game of the weekend, Mobile produced a shutout victory in the scheduled seven-inning contest. Brewton-Parker opened the game with a walk from
Kyran Coleman and base hit from
Kennard Dawson, unfortunately the pair were left stranded.
The Rams struck early with a solo homer in the bottom of the first to claim the lead. After a swift three-and-out for BPC, UM followed with a five-run inning in the second to move to a 6-0 advantage. The Barons' defense gave up an error and struggled to keep the Rams away, as Mobile notched just one hit in the inning which was a three-RBI double.
Brewton-Parker produced a pair of hits in the fourth inning with singles from
Eduardo Castillo and
Drew DeMasi. Just like the first inning, the two baserunners were left on and the Barons closed out another inning with a zero on the board.
Mobile added to the tally in the bottom of the fifth inning barreling a solo shot for a 7-0 edge. The Rams tallied three hits which included a two-run homerun to move to a 9-0 lead in the sixth.
Anyelo Sanchez doubled from the leadoff spot in the seventh, but that was the final hit for BPC as Mobile was able to keep the Barons scoreless for the first win of the series.
Inside the Statistics
- Mobile held Brewton-Parker to just four hits in the opening game while totaling seven hits which included three homers.
- Robin Haven (1-1) received the loss after tossing for four innings, giving up one earned run and six runs total on three hits. He struck out three batters and walked three as well.
- Chris Harmon closed out the final two innings, giving away three earned runs on four hits while striking out one batter in the process.
How It Happened | G2 – BPC 4, UM 8
Mobile continued with the long ball in game two, producing a homerun in the bottom of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead. Brewton-Parker opened the game hitless in the first two innings and eventually found a base hit from
Jacob Mantooth in the third inning.
Despite being granted a free base off an error from the Rams, BPC left Mantooth stranded with the top half of the third inning ending with a double play. UM added two runs in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead notching two RBI-doubles.
Brewton-Parker left a runner on base yet again in the fourth after a double from Castillo. The Rams continued with another two-hit inning, pushing across two runs. One score came from a solo homer while another was scored off a base hit to advance to a 5-0 advantage.
The Barons eventually found four runs in the sixth inning, cutting the deficit down to just one run.
Jack Morris led the inning off with a single before Coleman followed with a base hit of his own.
After a pop-up and a walk, DeMasi connected for a two-RBI double before advancing a base on a wild pitch which also brough home the third run. DeMasi finally found his way across the plate on a groundout to give BPC the fourth run of the inning.
Mobile essentially shut the door on Brewton-Parker in the eighth inning, connecting for four hits to score three runs to take an 8-4 lead.
Inside the Statistics
- The Rams boasted a 12-7 hit advantage in game two, recording two homers in game two.
- Morris led BPC with two hits while DeMasi led with two RBIs.
- Both DeMasi and Castillo notched doubles.
- Ty Cook (2-10) received the loss after throwing for seven innings, giving up 11 hits and being credited with six earned runs. He struck out seven batters and walked two.
- Noah Gilbert pitched for the final inning, allowing just one hit and recording one strikeout.
