Barons’ Late-Game Rally Not Enough in 13-9 Loss to No. 8 Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. – Brewton-Parker baseball wrapped up the weekend series in Mobile with a single nine-inning contest on Saturday afternoon.

The Barons (9-26, 1-14 SSAC) despite the late-game surge, BPC fell short to the No. 8-ranked Rams (24-6, 10-2 SSAC) in a tough 13-9 battle.

How It Happened

Brewton-Parker and Mobile found themselves in a 0-0 stalemate after the first two and half innings before the Rams blew the game wide open in the third inning. A single from Kyran Coleman in the first and a double from Jack Morris in the top of the third bested UM with a 2-1 hitting edge.

The hosts tallied five hits to score a total of six runs in the bottom half of the third inning. Mobile struck first with a two-run homer and followed with three-straight base hits to bring a total of four RBIs for the six-run advantage.

Mobile totaled four additional hits and pushed across six more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to explode to a 12-0 lead. The Rams added one final run in the bottom of the fifth inning to move to a 13-run cushion, leaving the bases loaded.

Brewton-Parker began to rally back into the game in the top of the sixth inning, connecting for three hits and taking advantage of an error to help score four runs to cut the deficit down to nine runs. Eduardo Castillo produced an RBI base hit for the first run followed by an RBI from Anyelo Sanchez and a two-RBI single from Tate Worrell.

In the top of the seventh, the Barons found another run to inch closer to the Rams off an RBI double from Sanchez. BPC followed up with a solid eighth inning, scoring three runs while notching four hits.

Castillo highlighted the inning with a three-run shot over the left field wall to cut the Barons' deficit down to five runs. The Barons tallied one final run in the ninth off a passed ball as the Rams were able to hold BPC back despite producing three hits and leaving a runner on base.
