MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker softball hosted No. 19-ranked William Carey (Miss.) on Thursday afternoon for an SSAC doubleheader in Mount Vernon.

The Lady Barons (14-12, 5-9 SSAC) dropped the pair of games to the Crusaders (27-7, 11-3 SSAC) in a 3-2 game one battle and a 4-0 loss in game two.

How It Happened | G1 – BPC 2, WCU 3

BPC left two runners stranded in the opening inning as Alyssa Usrey was walked and MacKenzie Tripp connected for a base hit. The Lady Barons took until the third inning to record another hit as Alexis Bradshaw produced a one-out single while also stealing a base.

William Carey struck first in the top of the fourth inning, producing four hits to score two runs for the 2-0 lead. Despite a leadoff single from Tripp in the fourth, the Lady Barons continued to be held scoreless.

The Crusaders tallied a hit and took advantage of some solid base running to push home a third run off an error to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the fifth inning. Brewton-Parker eventually responded in the bottom half of the sixth with three hits to score a pair of runs.

Usrey connected for a leadoff single before Abbey Flowers advanced Usrey on a sacrifice bunt. Tripp then singled up the middle and advanced to second on the throw in which Usrey was able to make it home for the first run. Josalin Whitten barreled a base hit to then bring home Tripp for the second run.

Unfortunately for BPC, the Crusaders managed to shut the door in the seventh to secure the 3-2 victory over the Lady Barons.
