No. 10 Rams Take Two from Lady Barons on Friday Afternoon

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker softball continued their weekend slate of games with a doubleheader against No. 10 Mobile (Ala.) on Friday afternoon.

The Lady Barons (14-14, 5-11 SSAC) fell in both games to the Rams (25-8, 12-4 SSAC) in a pair of shutouts in Mount Vernon.

How It Happened | G1 – BPC 0, UM 5

With two scoreless innings to open the game, Mobile put three runs on the scoreboard with four hits and taking advantage of an error from BPC to take a three-run advantage in the top of the third inning. The Rams stole home to score the first run before notching two runs on a double to take the 3-0 lead.

Cailyn Snellgrove connected for BPC's first hit of the game in the bottom half of the third, but the Lady Barons were held scoreless after a double play and a strikeout. Alexis Bradshaw produced a leadoff single but was caught stealing second as the Lady Barons closed out another scoreless inning in the fourth.

The Rams notched their fourth run of the game in the fifth with a triple and an RBI groundout to take a 4-0 lead before adding another in the sixth inning for a 5-0 advantage. BPC left two runners stranded in the bottom of the sixth inning as Snellgrove and Cayden Fleming both notched base hits, but the pair were left on.

Brewton-Parker found one final hit in the bottom of the seventh with a single from Abbey Flowers, but that was all the BPC bats were able to produce as the visitors took game one by a five-run difference.

  • Mobile outmatched Brewton-Parker in the hits category with a 12-5 edge.
  • Laykin Brown (5-8) received the loss after pitching for the first five innings, giving up four earned runs, striking out two and walking one.
  • Natalie O'Neal finished the final two innings, giving up just one hit while striking out one batter and walking another.
How It Happened | G2 – BPC 0, UM 3

Brewton-Parker's bats became virtually cold in game two as the Lady Barons managed to notch just one hit in the 3-0 loss to the Rams. The BPC defense managed to hold UM to just one hit for the first four innings of play with a double in the third inning.

The Lady Barons' lone hit of the game fell in the fourth inning as Bradshaw connected for a leadoff single. Unfortunately, Mobile responded with a double and an RBI-single to take a 1-0 lead before closing out with a double, fielder's choice and a walk to leave the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning.

The visitors tallied two runs in the sixth with an RBI-double and an RBI-single to move to a three-run lead. Mobile managed to hold on to the three-run advantage to close out the game, securing the doubleheader sweep.

  • The Rams held an 8-1 advantage in hits, producing four doubles in the game.
  • Kristi Peters (3-4) received the loss, pitching the first five innings. She gave up all three earned runs and struck out one batter in the process.
  • Emma Garner closed the game with two innings in the circle, notching one strikeout as well.
