MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker baseball wrapped up the weekend series against No. 21 William Carey (Miss.) on Friday with a doubleheader in Mount Vernon.
The Barons (9-17, 1-8 SSAC) dropped a pair of losses to the Crusaders (20-6, 4-2 SSAC) as WCU swept the series with a 6-5 game two win and an 18-5 game three victory.
How It Happened | G2 – BPC 5, WCU 6
The Crusaders struck first with an RBI double to put a run on the board in the first inning. After holding the Barons scoreless, WCU added three more in the second with an RBI single followed by a two-run homer to lead 4-0 after two innings.
Drew DeMasi tripled in the bottom of the second but was left on base, leaving Brewton-Parker scoreless. The Barons notched singles from
Kennard Dawson and
Eduardo Castillo, but BPC left the bases loaded in the third to remain scoreless.
After a blank fourth inning, the Crusaders moved to a 5-0 lead with a solo shot over right field. Brewton-Parker pulled back into the game with four runs in the bottom of the fifth as Dawson knocked in a pair off a double followed by a two-run shot from
Brandon Lawrence to cut the deficit down to just one run.
William Carey knocked in one more run in the sixth off an RBI triple and shut out BPC in the bottom half of the inning. After two-straight strikeouts, Lawrence barreled a solo homer to cut the Barons' deficit back to one run but that was all BPC had as they fell shy, 6-5 in the scheduled seven-inning contest.

- William Carey held a narrow 9-8 advantage in overall hits while both teams notched two homers apiece.
- Lawrence led things for BPC with three RBIs off two hits, both were over the wall for home runs.
- Ty Cook (2-7) was credited for the loss as he tossed all seven innings for Brewton-Parker. In the loss, Cook struck out nine and walked four, giving up just one earned run.

William Carey put on a show in the third game of the series with a convincing 18-5 victory over Brewton-Parker. The Crusaders put together five home runs, three doubles, and a total of 22 hits in the game to cruise past the Barons.
WCU scored four in the first and three in the second before
Jack Morris produced a sacrifice flyout to score one in the bottom half of the second. After a scoreless third, the Crusaders tacked on three in the fourth and three in the fifth before adding four more in the sixth.
Brewton-Parker added another run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice flyout from
Kyran Coleman. With a 17-2 advantage, WCU tallied one final run with an RBI single to move to an 18-2 lead.
The Barons added three to their tally in the seventh with two runs walked in and another crossing home on a wild pitch to move the game to 18-5.

- William Carey held a 22-2 hit advantage in the second game of the day.
- Coleman was credited for two RBIs alongside Morris while Malik Germany and Lawrence both notched hits.
- A total of seven arms made an appearance for Brewton-Parker, Jacob Mantooth (0-2) produced the loss with the start by giving up four earned runs off four hits while striking out a pair.
