Lady Barons Fall to No. 1 Mobile

MOBILE, Ala. – Brewton-Parker softball traveled to Mobile, Alabama to take on No. 1 Mobile to continue SSAC play.

The Lady Barons (8-8, 1-5 SSAC) dropped a pair of games to the top-ranked Rams (19-4, 6-0 SSAC) in a 2-0 game one loss and a 4-0 loss in game two.

How It Happened | G1 – BPC 0, UM 2

The Lady Barons were fortunate to come out of the opening inning unscathed as the Rams had the bases loaded after a pair of walks and a hit-by-pitch, leaving all three runners on to remain scoreless after one.

Brewton-Parker notched the game's first hit with a single from Chloe Strickland with Mobile following in the bottom half with a base hit of their own. Both teams were held scoreless in the first two innings of play until the Rams notched a leadoff single and an RBI single to take a 1-0 lead in the third inning.

Josalin Whitten connected for a double in the fifth but was left on base to keep BPC at zero on the board. Mobile answered with a pair of singles to cross home one run in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead.

MacKenzie Tripp notched a base hit in the top of the seventh, but the Lady Barons were held scoreless yet again as the Rams managed to get out with a 2-0 win.

Inside the Statistics
  • Mobile led 9-3 in hits.
  • Tripp, Strickland, and Whitten led BPC with a hit each.
  • Laykin Brown pitched the entire game, giving up two earned runs while striking out three batters.
How It Happened | G2 – BPC 0, UM 4

The Lady Barons were held scoreless for the second game with three hits while the Rams notched a pair of runs in the first and third innings to take the second contest with a four-run advantage.

Abbey Flowers doubled in the top of the opening inning but was left on for the Barons. UM took care of a hit and two errors from BPC to score two in the first inning, leaving the bases loaded.

After a scoreless second inning and just one hit from the Rams, Mobile responded with four hits in the third inning to push across two runs while leaving another trio of runners on base.

BPC was unable to produce another hit until the sixth inning with a single from Alexis Bradshaw, followed by a base hit from the hosts. Flowers notched one final base hit for the Lady Barons in the seventh, but Brewton-Parker was forced to leave her on base.

Inside the Statistics
  • Mobile held a 7-3 hit advantage with Flowers leading BPC with a double and a single.
  • Emma Garner started in the circle and threw for five innings, giving up two earned runs on six hits while striking out a batter.
  • Natalie O'Neal finished things off in the final inning of play, allowing a hit.
