MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker baseball hosted No. 21 William Carey (Miss.) on Thursday for a single nine-inning contest in Mount Vernon.
The Barons (9-16, 1-6 SSAC) fell short to the Crusaders (18-6, 2-2 SSAC) in an 11-9 loss.
How It Happened
William Carey opened the game with two runs in the first as well as a pair of runs in the second inning to take an early 4-0 lead. The Crusaders totaled five hits as well as left a total of four runners on base between the two innings.
Brewton-Parker was held hitless until the bottom of the third inning with
Malik Germany notching the first base hit for the Barons. William Carey forced BPC to leave the runner on base and responded with a run scored in the fourth inning off a loaded bases walk to take a 5-0 advantage.
The Barons eventually put some runs on the scoreboard, gathering three runs in the bottom of the fifth with
Jacob Mantooth connecting for a single followed by an RBI base hit from
Kyran Coleman and an RBI single from
Eduardo Castillo.
WCU answered right back with two runs in the sixth to take a 7-3 advantage but a sacrifice fly out from Mantooth in the bottom of the inning pull the Barons back into a three-run ballgame. The Crusaders move to an 8-4 lead in the seventh before advancing to an 11-4 lead with three runs on two hits and a BPC error in the top of the eighth inning.
Brewton-Parker pulled back into the game in the bottom of the eighth with four runs off two hits.
Anyelo Sanchez, Germany, and Castillo all gathered RBI doubles while
Kennard Dawson picked up an RBI as well.
The Barons put together two hits and were fortunate enough to cross home one run off a double from
Carson Kirby in the ninth inning but that was not enough as BPC's window of opportunity was slammed shut.
