Men’s Basketball Downs Dalton State on Thursday Night

DALTON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker men's basketball continued SSAC play on the road with a contest at Dalton State (Ga.) on Thursday night.

The Barons (6-19, 4-13 SSAC) downed the Roadrunners (15-10, 10-7 SSAC) in a 69-60 win, stealing a road victory in the SSAC Game of the Week.

How It Happened | 1st Half

  • Brewton-Parker opened with a 5-0 lead with Lance Smith and Grant Sanders netting the first two buckets of the game.
  • Sanders added another jumper at 17:55 to give BPC a 7-2 lead before the Roadrunners answered nearly two minutes later to pull their deficit down to three points.
  • After another score from Sanders, DSC responded with five points to level the score 9-9 with 13:22 on the clock.
  • The Barons answered with a jumper from Damarcus Johnson Jr. and Sanders to lead by four points leaving 12 minutes in the half.
  • BPC jumped out to an 18-11 lead with a 5-2 run before the Roadrunners pulled back to a three-point deficit.
  • Dalton State went on a 12-3 run to reclaim the lead, 23-21 with just over five minutes remaining in the half.
  • The Barons managed to heat up in the final few minutes of the half by outscoring the Roadrunners 16-7 to close out the half with a 37-28 lead.
  • Sanders led the way with 12 points in the half followed by Emmanuel Green's nine points.

How It Happened | 2nd Half

  • Similar to the first half, both Smith and Sanders opened the second half with jumpers to give BPC a 13-point advantage.
  • Dalton State began to gain momentum with a 13-2 run to pull the deficit down to just two points with 15:34 left in the game.
  • Smith knocked down a jumper to move back to a four-point edge, but the hosts notched six unanswered points over the course of three minutes to capture a 47-45 lead.
  • Kenny Colwell hit a huge shot from the perimeter to give the Barons a 48-47 lead before following up with another trey at the 9:56 mark to lead by four points.
  • Despite fighting to pull within a one-point score, Dalton State's opportunities slipped away with treys from Aaron Udell and Emmanuel Green sparking a 14-6 run for the Barons to close out the game with a nine-point lead down the stretch.

  • The Barons finished the night shooting for 34.8% (24-of-69) from the floor, 29.2% (7-of-24) from three, and 73.7% (14-of-19) from the foul line.
  • Smith led with 16 points and five assists followed by Sanders' 14 points and eight rebounds.
  • Green also notched double figures with 12 points with Jordan Johnson scoring 10 points and dishing out five assists alongside Smith.
