MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker baseball hosted a single nine-inning contest against Point (Ga.) on Tuesday afternoon in Mount Vernon, Ga.
The Barons (4-3) were dropped by the Skyhawks (2-2) in a 17-3 contest that was cut short to seven innings.
How It Happened
Point took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a sacrifice fly bringing home a runner. Brewton-Parker leveled things quickly with a run in the bottom half of the inning as
Anyelo Sanchez produced an RBI on a ground out to second, scoring Jonathan Phillips.
After the first inning, the Skyhawks shifted the momentum back in their favor with a homer in the top of the second inning to reclaim the lead, 2-1. The visitors added a pair of runs in the third inning with three hits, recording another homer as well as an RBI double. Point added another two runs in the fourth inning off a two-RBI single to lead 6-1.
In the bottom of the fourth, BPC managed to find a free base with
Malik Germany reaching first on an error. The Barons moved Germany to scoring position off a single from
Carson Kirby but unfortunately left both runners on base after a groundout.
The visitors jumped out to a 10-1 lead, scoring four runs in the top half of the fifth highlighted by a three-run homer. Point continued to trend upward with a six-run sixth inning, boosting to a 16-1 lead. After one final run from the Skyhawks in the seventh, Brewton-Parker managed to bring home two runs with
Eduardo Castillo's sacrifice fly bringing in Kirby and
Tate Worrell connecting for an RBI single to bring in
Kyran Coleman.
Inside the Statistics
- Point held a 14-5 hitting advantage over the Barons while giving up two fewer errors than BPC with a 2-4 edge.
- Castillo led the Barons with a single and a double bringing home an RBI as well.
- The Skyhawks notched a total of five home runs on the day as well as three doubles.
- Ryan Dopson started on the bump for the Barons, throwing for the first two innings and giving up five hits with four runs while striking out two batters.
- Noah Gilbert, Bryce Morley, Robin Haven, and Phillips all made appearances on the mound with Gilbert and Phillips both notching a pair of strikeouts each.
