MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Brewton-Parker Men's Wrestling program split up today with a handful of individuals competing on the road in Tennessee while several competed in a home dual against No. 3-ranked Southeastern (Fla.) in Gillis Gym.
In the home dual, the Barons (3-14, 1-6 AAC) were shut out by a tough Fire (12-4, 6-1 AAC) side that won in convincing fashion, 50-0.
BPC essentially started in an 18-0 hole forfeiting 125, 133, and 165. The closest two matches were at 157 and 184 as Benjamin Tarrago (157) battled in a 6-2 decision followed by Charlie Henkel's (184) 10-3 decision. As for the rest of the dual, the visitors notched three pins and two major decisions to total a 50-0 final score.
Cumberland Open Recap
Several individuals competed on Saturday in the Cumberland Open, trying to add more matches for the season. Dennis McNeal highlighted the trip with a first-place finish in the 133 open division with a 4-0 record, producing three decisions and a major.
Wilkinson Saul also earned a first-place finish, competing in the 285 open bracket with a 4-0 record on the day. He opened with back-to-back majors before closing with a pin and a decision for the top spot.
Tyree Henry also competed in the 133 open division alongside McNeal. Henry finished with a 3-2 record, recording two puns and a decision. Bradley Owens earned a pin in the opening round of the 149 bracket with Kullum Irvin notching two pins in the same weight class.
