Baseball Drops Pair of Games to Spring Arbor and (RV) Warner

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker baseball opened the weekend with two seven-inning contests against Spring Arbor (Mich.) and (RV) Warner (Fla.) on Friday evening.

The Barons (7-8) fell to the Cougars (3-0) 11-5 in game one and to the Royals (6-6) 8-2 in game two.

How It Happened | G1 – BPC 5, SAU 11

A two-run homer from Kennard Dawson opened things up in the bottom of the first inning to give the Barons a 2-0 lead. Spring Arbor responded with a homer and a pair of RBI base hits to put together four runs in the top half of the second inning, claiming a 4-2 lead.

Drew DeMasi connected for a two-RBI single to push across Anyelo Sanchez and Dawson to level the score for BPC. After a scoreless fourth inning, the Cougars put together another four-run inning in the fifth to an 8-4 lead.

Brewton-Parker tallied one final run in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI single from Kyran Coleman before Spring Arbor added three runs in the seventh inning to seal an 11-5 victory over the Barons.

  • Despite the loss, BPC led 13-10 in hits but gave up a total of four errors which aided the visitors.
  • Both teams notched a home run each while Carson Kirby connected for the game's lone double.
  • A total of four individuals notched two hits each for BPC with Dawson and DeMasi both leading with two RBIs apiece.
  • Ryan Dopson (3-2) picked up the loss after starting on the mound, pitching for four innings. He gave up eight runs on six hits while striking out three batters.

The Brewton-Parker bats struggled in the second game of the day, notching just four hits on the day. Warner struck first in the third inning, scoring off a two-RBI double and an RBI single to lead 3-0.

A loaded bases walk for Malik Germany pushed a runner home for the first of two scores for BPC as the Barons managed to bring another home off a wild pitch from the Royals.

After scoreless fifth and sixth innings, the visitors took advantage of four hits and a BPC error to push across five runs in the top of the seventh to move to an 8-2 lead. The Royals connected for a two-run homer before a pair of RBI base hits advanced the lead to six runs for the victory.

  • BPC was outhit 11-4 for the game with four individuals notching a hit for the Barons.
  • Eduardo Castillo connected for the only Brewton-Parker double.
  • Three BPC baserunners notched a stolen base.
