Barons Split the Day with Win Over (RV) Warner and Loss to Spring Arbor

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker baseball wrapped up a busy weekend with a repeat of opponents from Friday evening, taking on (RV) Warner (Fla.) and Spring Arbor (Mich.) on Saturday.

The Barons (8-9) defeated the Royals (6-7) to open the day with an 8-5 victory before falling to the Cougars (5-0) 15-2 in the nightcap.

How It Happened | G1 – BPC 8, WU 5

After a leadoff double from Brandon Lawrence the Barons failed to bring home the runner, leaving one on base before hanging six runs on the Royals in the second inning. DeMasi led the inning off with a home run to spark the BPC bats as the Barons followed with three-straight base hits capped by an RBI single from Jacob Mantooth.

After adding a third run from a wild pitch, Lawrence produced an RBI with a sacrifice flyout to score the fourth run of the inning. Brewton-Parker closed out the inning with an RBI single from Kennard Dawson before pushing one final run in from another wild pitch to lead 6-0.

Warner responded with three hits to score a run in the third inning with chances to add to the tally but was left short with the bases loaded before following up in the fourth inning with three runs on three hits and a pair of errors from the Barons to move the deficit down to just two runs.

A scoreless fifth inning would pass before the Royals would add a run in the sixth, with an RBI double to move within a one-run score. Brewton-Parker managed to pull away with three hits to score two runs as Kyran Coleman connected for an RBI double while Carson Kirby notched an RBI off a sacrifice bunt to score the eighth run of the game. The Royals were knocking on the door with the bases loaded but were left empty-handed in the top of the seventh as the Barons managed to pull away with the win.
