MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker baseball hosted a midweek contest against No. 20 Reinhardt (Ga.) on Tuesday afternoon.
The Barons (7-6) dropped the matchup to the Eagles (7-5) in a 10-7 contest.
How It Happened
The Eagles struck first with a gut punch of an inning for BPC, scoring five runs off four hits and two errors to claim an early lead in the second inning. Reinhardt notched two home runs in the inning as well as a pair of base hits.
Malik Germany answered for Brewton-Parker in the bottom half of the second inning with a two-out homer of his own to cut the deficit down to just four runs while
Jacob Mantooth also connected for a single.
After a pitching change for the Barons, the visitors scored three runs in the third to move to an 8-1 advantage off two hits and an error. Brewton-Parker struggled to produce any offensive threat to the Eagles for four innings until the eighth inning.
In the process, Reinhardt added runs in the fifth and seventh innings to move to a 10-1 lead. BPC was able to ignite a spark late down the stretch, producing two runs on three hits in the eighth inning.
Kennard Dawson produced a leadoff single before stealing second base.
Brandon Lawrence then pushed Dawson home with an RBI double followed by an RBI double from
Drew DeMasi to score Lawrence.
With a bit of momentum shifted, the Barons added four more runs in the ninth inning.
Kyran Coleman notched a one-out single followed by a base hit from
Eduardo Castillo.
After a hit by pitch,
Tate Worrell connected for a two-RBI single before Lawrence followed with an RBI double to move the BPC deficit back to four runs. Brewton-Parker tallied one final run with a groundout from DeMasi to score a runner, moving the game to 10-7.
Inside the Statistics
- Despite the loss, BPC led 14-12 in hits while RU led 3-1 in home runs.
- Lawrence led the batting efforts for the Barons, notching three hits and two RBIs followed by DeMasi with two hits and two RBIs.
- A total of five pitchers appeared on the mound for BPC, Ty Cook moved his record to 2-2 on the season after the loss. Cook gave up four earned runs on five hits while striking out three.
- Noah Gilbert also struck out three batters to lead the Barons alongside Cook.
