MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker baseball continued the weekend series against St. Andrews (N.C.) on Saturday afternoon with a doubleheader in Mount Vernon.
The Barons (7-5) picked up the series win over the Knights (2-5) sweeping the day with an 11-2 and 4-3 win.
How It Happened | G1 – BPC 11, SAU 2
Brewton-Parker took care of business with a convincing win in the first game of the day in the scheduled seven-inning contest. The Barons struck first with a two-run homer from
Drew DeMasi to give BPC a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
A pair of runs crossed home in the third inning off a single from
Anyelo Sanchez as the Barons also took advantage of an error to assist in bringing home
Brandon Lawrence and
Tate Worrell for a 4-0 lead.
St. Andrews put their first run on the board in the fourth inning with a solo homer to left field to cut the deficit to three runs before BPC answered with an RBI single from
Eduardo Castillo to move the lead back to four runs.
After a scoreless fifth inning, the sixth sparked with lots of action as seven total runs were scored between the two teams. The Knights connected for another solo home run in the top half of the inning to move the score to 5-2, but the Barons responded with six runs in the bottom of the inning.
Jacob Mantooth and
Kyran Coleman notched base hits before Castillo knocked in an RBI double to bring home a run for a 6-2 lead. BPC added a run off a wild pitch before
Brandon Lawrence connected for an RBI single for the 8-2 lead. After scoring on an error, the Barons added two final runs with a two-RBI double from
Malik Germany to move the score to 11-2.
Inside the Statistics
- BPC led 12-4 in hits with a total of five Barons recording two hits each and four notching two RBIs apiece.
- Kennard Dawson, Castillo, and Germany all produced doubles while DeMasi recorded his first home run of the season.
- Carlos Rodriguez started on the mound for BPC, picking up the win with five innings of action. He produced seven strikeouts while allowing just one run on two hits.
- Noah Gilbert closed the game out with two innings on the bump, throwing three strikeouts and allowing just one run on two hits.

The opening two innings resulted in scoreless efforts for both sides as DeMasi's single in the bottom of the second was the lone base hit until the bottom of the third. Castillo connected for a two-out double before Dawson produced an RBI single to score Castillo for the early 1-0 lead.
Brewton-Parker moved to a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning with Lawrence scoring on a wild pitch after recording a single but left a pair of runners on base to close the inning. After a scoreless fifth inning, the Knights were able to find a run in the top of the sixth inning producing two base hits.
The Barons answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning off two hits with Germany reaching on a two-out single prior to
Carson Kirby's two-run homer which boosted the BPC lead to three runs. St. Andrews cut their deficit down to two runs in the seventh with an RBI double and were able to find one final run in the ninth inning from a pair of hits.

- BPC held a 10-7 advantage in hits with Kirby leading the way for the Barons with two hits and two RBIs with Castillo connecting for the lone double.
- Four Barons made appearances on the mound with Ryan Dopson earning the win after pitching for the first five innings. Dopson struck out eight batters while allowing just two hits.
- Chandler Koerner came in to pitch an inning, giving up a run and two hits before Matt Hager followed with two innings and pair of strikeouts.
- Ty Cook wrapped things up in the final inning, earning his second save of the season with two strikeouts.
