HATTIESBURG, Miss. – Brewton-Parker men's basketball traveled west to Hattiesburg, Mississippi for an SSAC contest at William Carey (Miss.) on Thursday night.
The Barons (8-19, 6-13 SSAC) downed the Crusaders (7-20, 3-16 SSAC) in an 82-80 overtime thriller on the road.
How It Happened | 1st Half
- William Carey opened the game nearly a minute into action with a bucket from beyond the arc, but the Barons responded with five unanswered points to take a 5-3 lead, leaving 17:14 on the clock.
- The Crusaders reclaimed control of the score yet a layup from Grant Sanders leveled the score for the Barons at 7-7 with under 16 minutes remaining.
- Treys from Sanders and Kenny Colwell boosted the Barons to a 13-7 lead before William Carey put together a 9-0 run over a two-minute span to lead 16-13 with 11:24 left.
- After a jumper from Emmanuel Green to pull the BPC deficit to just a point, WCU went on a 17-8 run over nearly five minutes to play to move to a 33-23 lead.
- The Barons closed out the final six minutes of the half with a 10-3 run while shooting 4-of-8 from the floor to cut the deficit down to 36-33 at the break.
How It Happened | 2nd Half
- Brewton-Parker opened the second half with a 7-3 run capped by a trey from Colwell to give the Barons a 40-39 lead with just over 17 minutes left to play.
- William Carey answered with six points of their own to reclaim the lead, holding a 45-40 advantage while taking nearly three minutes off the clock.
- The Barons leveled the score at the 12:42 mark with an 8-3 run with huge three-pointers falling from Jordan Johnson and Colwell.
- Green was able to lay one in with 11:31 on the clock to give BPC a two-point edge before WCU was able to equalize with a pair of free throws.
- Colwell connected for another deep shot from downtown to lead a 7-0 run for the Barons with the Crusaders responding with five points to pull within two.
- A steal and a layup from Lance Smith followed by a jumper from Aaron Udell gave BPC a 61-55 lead with just under six minutes to play.
- William Carey continued to respond to every score from Brewton-Parker until the hosts managed to piece together a 9-2 run to claim a two-point lead with 1:39 remaining.
- A huge trey from Johnson found the bottom of the net at the 1:20 mark to give the Barons a 67-66 lead, but the hosts responded yet again with a jumper as well as two free throws to capture a three-point advantage with 15 seconds left.
- As time began to expire, Green knocked down a clutch shot from beyond the arc to level the score 70-70 to force overtime.
How It Happened | Overtime
- The Crusaders opened with a trey to take an early three-point lead, however, Johnson made sure the host's lead was short-lived after knocking down a three-pointer of his own to level the game 73-73.
- WCU took advantage of a foul from the perimeter, scoring three free throws to take another three-point lead with three minutes remaining.
- Smith's layup at the 2:39 mark sparked a solo 9-2 run with two layups and four free throws to give BPC an 82-78 advantage with 14 seconds left.
- William Carey found one final bucket just seconds later, but the Barons were able to hold off the hosts to secure the overtime victory.

- The Barons finished the evening shooting for 53.8% (28-of-52) from the floor, 42.9% (12-of-28) from three, and 82.4% (14-of-17) from the charity stripe.
- Smith led the offensive efforts with 21 points while also producing three assists and five rebounds.
- Colwell recorded 15 points and a team-leading four assists followed by both Johnson and Green with 11 points each.
- William Carey held a 31-29 advantage off the glass with Damarcus Johnson Jr. leading BPC with six boards.
