MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Women's Soccer played hosts to Point (Ga.) on Thursday night for a Southern States Athletic Conference battle in Mount Vernon.
The Lady Barons (1-6-1, 1-4-0 SSAC) soared past the Skyhawks (1-8-3, 0-5-1 SSAC) in a 1-0 victory, securing the first conference win of the season for BPC.
"I want to thank God for the victory," Head Coach
Phillip Borde stated. "It was not close to our best performance, but the girls fought hard to see the game out."
"It is always good to get your first conference win of the year," Borde added. "Now we need to get ready for another 90 minutes on Saturday, God willing."
How It Happened | First Half
The first half was quite the battle for both sides as no early opportunities were landing on target. Point rattled off three shots in the first 20 minutes, but all missed the mark. A shot from
Kathleen Fisher at the 10:54 mark went high and was followed by shots from
Beata Chako and
Avril Diaz in which Diaz's attempt was the lone shot on frame in the 25th minute.
Point eventually managed to place one between the posts in the 32nd minute, but
Nikki Clark cleanly kept it away. At the 42:05 mark, Brewton-Parker broke through the scoreless drought as Chako slotted home ball with the help of
Sunnie Moon for a one-goal lead.
The Skyhawks nearly leveled the match in the closing moments with two shots in the final few minutes, one of which was knocked off the crossbar at the 44:33 mark.
How It Happened | Second Half
The second half was another battle as both teams continued to pressure one another. Point notched shots on goal in the 48th and 52nd minutes while Oliva Cason's attempt was denied in the 50th minute.

Julissa Sanchez and Moon taking chances toward the goal. Point's last real opportunity between the posts came in the 80th minute with a save from Clark. BPC notched one last-ditch effort to place one in the back of the net as
