Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Clayton Barefield - Director of Athletic Communications

Lady Barons Outmatched by Night Hawks in 2-0 Loss

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker Women's Soccer hosted cross-state foe and Southern States Athletic Conference newcomer Thomas (Ga.) on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Barons (1-7-1, 1-5-0 SSAC) dropped the match to the Night Hawks (7-5-1, 3-2-1 SSAC) in a 2-0 defeat.

"The overall performance today was good defensively as a unit," Phillip Borde mentioned. "We made two mistakes and Thomas took advantage of that."

"Moving forward in the attack, we were stagnant in the first half and found a bit of a footing in the second," Borde added. "I can't fault the ladies for their effort. We are looking forward to the next match versus Blue Mountain."

How It Happened | First Half

After about 10 minutes of nearly no action, Thomas ripped a shot off but was saved by Naphtaline Clermeus as the Night Hawks recorded the first offensive attempt of the match.

Avril Diaz managed to get a shot on goal in the 18th minute, but the TU keeper denied BPC. Both teams traded shots wide, but the Night Hawks were able to place a couple more attempts on frame before eventually breaking through just before the half. Thomas slotted home a goal in the 44th minute to take a 1-0 lead at the break.

The Night Hawks led 9-2 in shots overall and 4-1 in shots on goal.

How It Happened | Second Half

The Lady Barons woke up offensively in the second half, coming out of the break with four shots in the first 10 minutes of play. After a couple of missed opportunities from the visitors in the 73rd and 75th minutes, Brewton-Parker had a chance to level the match late.

Kathleen Fisher knocked a shot off the crossbar at the 79:56 mark and followed up with another shot on frame saved by TU's keeper at the 80:03 mark. Another attempt off the head of Beata Chacko at the 88:24 mark was denied by the keeper just before the Night Hawks put the game away in the final moments with a goal with just seconds left on the clock.

Despite leading the half 7-3 in shots, BPC struggled to find the back of the net in the two-goal loss.
