MOBILE, Ala. – Brewton-Parker men's basketball returned to SSAC play on Saturday afternoon with a road contest at Mobile (Ala.).
The Barons (3-7, 2-3 SSAC) surged in the second half but fell short to the Rams (7-4, 3-3 SSAC) in a 95-88 loss. Despite the loss, the Barons had a highlight milestone moment as
Lance Smith surpassed the 1,000-point mark for his career with 28 points on the night, moving to 215 points in his first season as a Barons.
How It Happened | 1st Half
- The Rams opened the game with an early 4-0 lead before a trey from Zailan Blue and a layup from Ferlin Joseph gave the Barons a 5-4 lead.
- After a trey from Mobile, BPC answered with buckets from Joseph and Smith to lead by two points with 15:43 on the clock.
- Mobile responded with five points to reclaim the lead just a minute later, leading 12-9.
- Over the next few minutes, Brewton-Parker went on a 10-2 run to lead by five points.
- The Rams put together a 17-2 run within a two-minute span to lead 29-21 with 8:11 remaining in the half.
- Both teams finished out the final minutes of the half scoring 14 points each, to move the score to 43-35 at the break.
- Blue led with 11 points in the half while Jeffery Huff Jr. went for a perfect 110% (3-for-3) from the field as well as 100% (2-for-2) from three for eight points.
How It Happened | 2nd Half
- Chance Hatcher produced back-to-back layups to open the second half, moving BPC's deficit to just four points with 18:26 remaining.
- After five points from the Rams, BPC found buckets from Huff Jr. and Joseph to pull back within a two-possession game.
- Mobile pulled away to a 26-point lead after going on a 21-0 run over a span of five minutes, leading 69-43 with 11:57 on the clock.
- After skidding to a 28-point deficit, the Barons began chipping away at the Rams' lead with a surge from Smith.
- Smith exploded in the second half with 24 points to lead the Barons back into the game, shooting 10-for-13 from the floor.
- Brewton-Parker managed to eventually pull under double figures with an 11-0 run beginning at the 2:59 mark, moving the score to a one-possession ball game.
- The Rams were able to ice the potential comeback effort with six free throws in the final 0:40 seconds of play.

- BPC shot for 54.7% from the field (35-of-64), 43.8% from three (7-of-16), and 61.1% (11-of-18) from the foul line.
- Smith's 28 points led the way for BPC which was also the second-best scoring effort for the game. Smith also gathered a game-leading four steals.
- Blue scored 18 points followed by Hatcher and Huff Jr. with 10 each.
- Hatcher led the rebounding efforts for the Barons with nine boards.
- Mobile led 26-22 in rebounds while also leading the turnover battle by two.

- The Rams held an 11-9 advantage in steals, scoring 27 points off turnovers.
- Brewton-Parker held a 54-30 scoring edge in the paint.
