MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Barons men's soccer continued SSAC action with a home contest against Blue Mountain (Miss.) on Saturday afternoon.
The Barons (1-9-1, 1-3-0 SSAC) came up short to the Toppers (5-6-2, 2-1-2 SSAC) in a 4-2 defeat, despite the late comeback effort in the final six minutes of play.
How It Happened | First Half
- Blue Mountain scored first in the 30th minute before following up with a second in the 37th minute, taking a 2-0 lead.
- The Toppers notched four shots while the Barons produced just three attempts overall, including a shot on goal from Elijah Trujillo in the 35th minute.
How It Happened | Second Half
- The Toppers began to slow down offensively in the second half but managed to find a goal in the 64th minute to lead with a three-goal advantage.
- With time ticking away, Brewton-Parker began to feel pressure to produce a successful attack.
- The Barons eventually posted two goals within three minutes of each other, taking advantage of a pair of penalties from Jacob Shield in the 85th and 88th minutes.
- Shield's brace sparked the BPC squad but in the final moments, Blue Mountain snuck one final goal at the 89:28 mark to seal the door shut on a comeback.

- Brewton-Parker held the overall shot advantage 13-7 while also holding a tight 7-6 advantage in shots on goal.
- Cesar Lopez and Shield both produced four shots each with Shield recording three on frame.
- Shield's pair of goals are the first two of the season for the senior midfielder.
