Barons’ Comeback Effort Secures Win Over Talladega on Thursday

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – The Brewton-Parker men's soccer program hosted Talladega (Ala.) to continue Southern States Athletic Conference play on Thursday night.

The Barons (1-8-1, 1-2-0 SSAC) managed to finally find the win column, downing Talladega (0-6, 0-4 SSAC) in a 2-1 victory.

"It wasn't pretty, but it's a result," Head Coach Bob Neumann said. "When things aren't quite firing, it's always nice to get a scoreline in your favor."

"I'm proud of the resilience the group showed and hopefully it's the spark we've been looking for," Neumann added. "We have a big match at the weekend against Blue Mountain."

How It Happened | First Half

  • The Barons managed to record the first shot of the half in the 5th minute with a shot from Jacob Shield sailing high over the crossbar.
  • Brewton-Parker's offense was producing chances in the first 30 minutes or so.
  • Derventz Altidor managed to find the back of the net in the 33rd minute but was called offside, forcing the Barons to wipe a goal off the board.
  • Just before the half, Talladega took advantage of a poor clearance from the BPC backline to snag the 1-0 lead.
  • Brewton-Parker outshot the Tornadoes 7-2 in the half with just one shot landing on frame.

How It Happened | Second Half

  • The Barons managed to level the match in the 63rd minute with Cesar Lopez finding the back of the net with the help of Shield and Altidor.
  • BPC's offense remained in control but struggled to find the go-ahead goal until the 82nd minute as Altidor slotted home a nice pass through the defense from Sven De Heij.
  • Altidor's goal gave the Barons a 2-1 advantage, erasing any sort of momentum the Tornadoes had.
