Box Score BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – The Brewton-Parker men's soccer program opened Southern States Athletic Conference action with a 4-2 win over Blue Mountain (Miss.).
The Barons (2-7-1, 1-0 SSAC) utilized a second-half surge to defeat the Toppers (5-4, 0-1 SSAC).
Coach Bob Neumann shared his thoughts after the win. "It is obviously nice to start conference play with a win," Neumann said. "For a first-year program, Blue Mountain caused us some problems for which they deserve all the credit for that."
"We're excited about the win as well as to get some rest," Neumann added. "We can now shift our focus to the next match which is against Talladega (Ala.) on Saturday."
How It Happened
- In the opening minutes, the Barons gathered a couple of shots but could not produce anything early. The Toppers were able to capture a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute.
- The Brewton-Parker attack produced seven shots before finding the net in the 33rd minute to even the scoreline at 1-1. Landon Brafford netted his first goal of the season with the assistance of Anton Van Efferink.
- The Barons would close out the half recording a few more shots. Brewton-Parker outshot Blue Mountain 15-3 in the first half.
- The Toppers managed to take a 2-1 lead early in the second half, scoring within five minutes from kick-off.
- Both sides traded shots, but neither could connect until Isaiah Lamont evened the match for Brewton-Parker in the 66th minute with the help of Patrick Gawliczek Rodriguez. Just seconds later, the Barons would net a third goal to take a 3-2 lead.
- Rooseveltdo Pierre netted his second of the season as Samuel Figueiro gathered the assist.
- The Barons continued to attack the Toppers defense with a multitude of shots as time was ticking away.
- In the 85th minute, the Barons found themselves in scoring position with a penalty kick opportunity. Pablo Grajales was able to finish past the keeper to give Brewton-Parker the 4-2 lead.
- In the second half, Blue Mountain managed to tally 11 shots while Brewton-Parker gathered 10.
Inside The Statistics
- As a team, the Barons notched 25 shots with 20 on frame while allowing the Toppers to record 14 shots and nine on goal.
- Figueiro led with six shots overall while Pierre gathered five. Pierre led with three on frame while Figueiro notched two.
- Both Grajales and Brafford recorded their first goals of the 2021-22 campaign with Pierre and Lamont both capturing their second goal of the season.
- Garrett Lane recorded all 90 minutes in goal for the Barons and totaled seven saves.

- Brewton-Parker led 8-3 in corner kicks on the evening.
- The Topper gathered 17 fouls while the Barons gathered eight.
