Late Goal from Florida National Drops Men's Soccer on Monday

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker men's soccer dropped their match against Florida National 3-2 on Monday evening.

The Barons (1-7-1) were defeated with late goal heroics from the Conquistadors (5-2-1) despite having equalized the match.

Coach Neumann shared his thoughts after the tough loss. "Games are determined by narrow margins and tonight was no different," Neumann said. "Florida National was very good in possession of the ball and we were not resolute enough in defense."

"Next time we will be stronger," Neumann added. "I would like to make a special note to some debutants tonight. They provided that little bit of spark we needed going forward."

How It Happened

  • Florida National opened the match with loads of pressure on the Brewton-Parker defense. The Conquistadors tallied five shots within the first 20 minutes before breaking through in the 21st minute to lead 1-0.
  • Later throughout the first half, both sides traded shots, but neither could produce a score.
  • The Barons managed to even the scoreline in the 37th minute as Isaiah Lamont slotted the ball home off a blocked shot from Rooseveltdo Pierre.
  • Florida National would not be denied as they snuck past a goal in the 45th minute, just before the break.
  • Both sides opened the second half trading blows before the Barons tied the match again in the 64th minute. Pierre was able to speed past the defense for a solo effort to even the match at 2-2.
  • In the 66th minute, Florida National had an opportunity to lead with a penalty kick but the shot bounced off the crossbar. With pressure building, the Conquistadors finally broke free in the 89th minute to win 3-2.

  • Florida National led with 23 total shots and 10 on frame while Brewton-Parker tallied seven with four on goal.
  • Both Lamont and Pierre notched their first goals of the season with Pierre gathering an assist on Lamont's score. Pierre also led the team with four shots.
