(RV) Men's Wrestling Defeated 35-12 by No. 7-ranked Phoenix

LEBANON, Tenn. – (RV) Brewton-Parker Men's Wrestling continued Mid-South Conference South Division action on Monday night in Lebanon, Tenn. against the No. 7-ranked Cumberland (Tenn.) Phoenix.

The Barons dropped the dual 35-12 to the Phoenix despite showing a lot of fight against a top-ranked opponent.

"We had a few good wins in our dual tonight," Coach Kenny Mason said. "We showed lots of fight and we made some improvements in several positions. We will take the positives away from tonight and look to build off those to improve upon the things we continue to do wrong."

At 125, Zayveon Mitchell fell to No. 4-ranked Carter Cox via a 12-4 major decision with the Phoenix earning four team points. In the 133-lb bout, No. 19-ranked Keshwn Laws defeated Keyshaun Taylor with an 18-0 tech fall for five team points in the dual.

Bradley Owens battled in the 141-lb bout to take down Blaine Fussel with a 3-2 decision to give the Barons three team points. Eli Clemmons downed Kohlby Hopper at 149 with a 17-2 tech fall, giving the Phoenix five team points.

At 157, No. 7-ranked Anthony Maia pinned (0:51) Levi Bishop for six points before No. 2-ranked Cole Smith pinned (2:37) Cody Thompson at the 165 for another six points. Douglas Peppers gathered the three points for Brewton-Parker taking down Matthew Sells in the 174-lb bout with a 2-0 decision.

No. 6-ranked Lucas DeSilva picked up a win with a pin (1:24) in the 184-lb bout over Austin Antcliffe to give BPC its final points for the dual, moving the Barons' tally to 12. At 197, Jonathan Whiting fell to River Henry with a disqualification, giving the Phoenix six points.

For the 285-lb bout, Joel Faglier battled hard against No. 5-ranked Patrick Depiazza but fell to a 5-3 decision with Cumberland earning three team points. The Phoenix captured the dual 35-12 over the Barons.

Brewton-Parker returns to action on Jan. 6 at the NWCA NAIA Multi-Duals in Louisville, Ky.
