Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Brewton-Parker men's soccer program traveled to Montgomery, Ala. to take on Faulkner (Ala.) in the SSAC Men's Soccer Tournament Opening Round.
The Barons (4-12-2) fell to the Eagles (5-10-0) in a 4-2 defeat to close out the 2021 fall campaign.
Head Coach Bob Neumann shared his thoughts after the match. "Credit is due to Faulkner," Neumann said. "They outperformed us tonight. I wish Gabi and his group a great run in the tournament."
How It Happened
- The first half opened with both sides trading a couple of shots within the first 15 minutes of the match. Brewton-Parker managed to take an early 1-0 lead at the 15:03 mark as Pablo Grajales gave the Barons the lead from the penalty spot.
- In the 32nd minute, Faulkner responded with a score of their own to equalize the game at 1-1. Shortly after, the Eagles gathered another goal to take the lead by moving the score to 2-1 in their favor.
- Faulkner outshot Brewton-Parker 8-4 in the first half.
- The Eagles continued to apply pressure to the Barons' defense as they garnered several shots to open the half. In the 66th minute, Faulkner boosted their lead to two followed by a fourth goal in less than 10 minutes to lead 4-1 in the 75th minute.
- Brewton-Parker did not go down without a fight as the Barons were able to diminish the deficit in the 85th minute as Caleb Summerfield found the back of the net with the assistance from Samuel Figueiro to move the scoreline to 4-2. Unfortunately, the Barons were unable to produce any other chances in hopes to build a comeback effort.
- Faulkner barely outshot Brewton-Parker 8-7 in the second half as the Barons managed to produce more opportunities.
Inside The Statistics
- Faulkner led the match with 16 shots overall and nine shots on goal while Brewton-Parker gathered 11 shots with six on frame.
- Summerfield led with four shots and two shots on goal while Grajales as well as Figueiro both split with three shots overall and two on goal.
- Jamair Stewart picked up five saves in 90 minutes played.
