Brewton-Parker is thrilled to welcome Coach Tony Hawkins to the athletic department. Tony has an outstanding resume:
A 10-year member of the University of West Georgia cross country and track and field staff, Hawkins, who primarily worked with the Wolves' sprinters, hurdlers, and jumpers, came to Carrollton as a graduate assistant in 2014 before being promoted to assistant coach in the fall of 2015.Â
Coach Hawkins has been an integral part of the UWG Track and field program since 2015. He was part of the staff during the first Women's Track and field championship season and has been a fixture at UWG for the past nine years.Â
During Hawkins' time in Carrollton, the UWG track and field program won the 2016 Gulf South Conference Championship and produced 56 All-GSC selections. Of those, 44 were named All-Region, and two athletes, Ashley Davis (2016) and T'oni Birden (2024), reached the NCAA Outdoor National Championships.Â
The indoor program at UWG got off the ground during Hawkins' tenure, with an additional 30 student-athletes earning All-Region honors on the indoor side. Hawkins had arguably his best season while coaching at West Georgia during the 2022-23 season. Under Hawkins' leadership, Paishence Collier (Long Jump) and Mia Culpepper (Triple Jump) became the first two West Georgia athletes to qualify for the Indoor NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships. Hawkins helped freshman T'oni Birden take home the Most Outstanding Freshman Performer at the GSC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Â
In Hawkins' final season as UWG's assistant, sophomore T'oni Birden reached Indoor and Outdoor Nationals (Long and Triple Jump), earning All-American honors in both. T'oni also took home Field Athlete of the Year at the GSC indoor and outdoor championships.Â
Before coming to West Georgia, Hawkins was the assistant coach at Cedar Grove High in Ellenwood, Georgia. He spent seven seasons on the staff, winning three state championships, including one on the women's side, and leading both the boys' and girls' squads to a pair of region titles.
As a student-athlete, Hawkins ran collegiately for Fort Valley State from 2000-04, where he graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management. Hawkins completed his Master's of Teaching Degree in Special Education at the University of West GeorgiaÂ
Hawkins holds a USATF Level 1 certification, USTFCCCA Track and Field Certification, USTFCCCA Specialist Certification in jumps, and USTFCCCA Specialist Certification in Sprints, Hurdles, and Relays.Â
