Asa Chapman is entering her first year as assistant coach for both women's basketball and track and field. Originally, Chapman is from Newton, Mississippi, where she attended Newton High School. While in high school, Chapman was a great student-athlete. Participating in both basketball and track, she obtained many accomplishments. In basketball, she won a state championship in 2010 and held multiple records and awards in track and field. Moving on to the collegiate level, Chapman attended East Central Community College for a year. Leaving East Central, Chapman transferred to William Carey University to run track for four years. While at William Carey, Chapman was named Athlete of the Week 4 different times. She also was a 4 time Conference Champion for the 4x1 relay team, 2 time Champion for the 400m dash, and 3 time Conference Champion for the 4x4 relay team. Along with many more accomplishments, Chapman and fellow teammates were also national qualifiers all four years. William Carey University women's 4x 1 relay team placed 5th at Nationals in 2016 and was named an All American Team.
Alongside being a student-athlete, Chapman volunteered at Hattiesburg High School and Hattiesburg Middle School for track and field. In that year, the team accomplished many goals. The programs obtained two Gatorade athletes and many record breakers along with a state championship title for both middle school and high school.
Asa Chapman also serves as Resident Director of Women for Brewton Parker College. Chapman feels that her experience and Christian beliefs will help reach young adults of today's society that they too would come to know Christ. “Being the resident director, most automatically think discipline. My mission here is to promote student learning and ethical decision making in an inclusive and validating environment. I encourage students to engage in self reflection and think critically about their situation in order to foster personal growth. Each student and case is different and unique in its own way,” says Chapman.
While enjoying athletics, Chapman also excelled in the classroom, obtaining a Bachelors of Science, Minor in Biology degree from William Carey University in 2015. Asa went on to graduate school and obtained a Masters of Education degree concentration in Interscholastic Athletic Administration/ Sports Management in 2016.
