Tyler Smith is entering his third season as Brewton-Parker’s Director of Wrestling and Head Men’s Wrestling Coach, Coach Smith has continued to build a competitive and successful program both on and off the mat.
Since taking over the program in the 2023-24 season, Smith has led the Barons to six NAIA National Qualifiers while also developing six NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athletes, emphasizing excellence in both competition and the classroom. His success was recognized during the 2025-26 season when he was named the Appalachian Athletic Conference Head Coach of the Year.
Before arriving at Brewton-Parker, Smith served as an assistant coach at Cumberland University, where he helped the Phoenix become one of the NAIA’s top programs. During his time there, Cumberland earned two top-10 finishes at the NAIA National Championships, produced one NAIA National Champion and six NAIA All-Americans, and Smith was named the Mid-South Conference Assistant Coach of the Year.
Smith also enjoyed a successful wrestling career of his own. He was a Georgia High School State Runner-up at Sonoraville High School before continuing his career at Cumberland University. As a Phoenix wrestler, he qualified for the NAIA National Championships and was a member of Cumberland’s 2016 Mid-South Conference Championship team.
Coach Smith and his wife, Hillary, are the proud parents of three children: daughters Tatum and Teagan, and son Grady.
