Montgomery, Ala— Brewton-Parker Men's soccer closed out the conference matchup with a strong defensive second half, but a five-goal opening period from Faulkner University proved too much to overcome as the Barons fell 5-1.
Faulkner opened the scoring in the 14th minute on a goal from Pepé Riofrio before Nicolas Tamayo added goals in the 27th and 37th minutes. The Eagles struck twice more late in the opening half to extend their advantage to 5-0.
Brewton-Parker answered just before halftime. Uros Andjelic found the back of the net in the 44th minute, scoring his second goal of the season and his second in as many matches to send the Barons into the break trailing 5-1.
The Barons settled in defensively after halftime and held Faulkner scoreless throughout the entire second half. The Eagles were limited to six shots over the final 45 minutes after producing 20 in the opening period.
Brewton-Parker finished with six shots, putting five on goal. Andjelic, Harry Mayhew, Aitor Novoa and Aleksa Dragosavljevic each recorded a shot on target, while the Barons were also credited with another team shot on goal.
In goal, Diego Alejandro Montes Carrera played all 90 minutes and recorded 11 saves, helping keep the Eagles off the board after the break.
The Barons will continue their road swing Saturday, Sept. 26, traveling to Mobile, Alabama, to face the University of Mobile.
