MOUNT VERNON, GA — Brewton-Parker Women's soccer returned home Thursday evening, falling 5-2 to Dalton State College in conference play. The loss moves the Lady Barons to 2-6 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Dalton State opened the scoring just 1:09 into the match, but Brewton-Parker responded quickly. Less than two minutes later, Daria Cwynar found the back of the net off an assist from Gabriela Munoz, leveling the match at 1-1 in the third minute.
The Roadrunners regained the lead in the 28th minute on a goal from Audrey Hunt and carried a 2-1 advantage into halftime. Dalton State extended its lead just 40 seconds into the second half to make it 3-1.
Brewton-Parker continued to push forward, and Cwynar struck again in the 62nd minute for her second goal of the match, cutting the deficit to 3-2. Dalton State answered with goals in the 64th and 66th minutes to pull away and secure the 5-2 result.
Cwynar led the Lady Barons' attack with eight shots and both of BPCU's goals, while Munoz recorded three attempts and an assist. Mikayla Johnson and Laura Marin each added a shot as Brewton-Parker finished with 13 attempts overall. The Lady Barons held Dalton State to a narrow 16-13 advantage in total shots.
In goal, Angel Camacho played all 90 minutes and recorded four saves.
Brewton-Parker will remain at home Saturday, Sept. 19, when the Lady Barons host Life University at noon.
