Barons Split with Fillies

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons softball team hosted the Fillies of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) on March 28, 2026, in a conference doubleheader. The Barons rallied late in game one to win 2-1, but were shut out in a pitchers' duel in game two, dropping the game 1-0.

Game one saw ABAC score at the top of the second inning and would hold their lead until the fifth inning when the Barons constructed a late-game rally to steal the momentum. The Barons broke through in the fifth after Aniston Powell reached on an error. Powell then stole second to move into scoring position, and Shelby Aiken followed with a single that brought her home to tie the game at 1-1. The run was unearned, but Brewton-Parker was not finished. Tori Wright came up next and delivered another single, driving in Aiken for the go-ahead run and a 2-1 lead. Sasmantha Mathews took the lead and continued to shut down the Fillies offense.  The Barons' right-hander worked all seven innings, allowing one run on five hits while walking three on 89 pitches.

Game two saw both teams struggle to generate any offense in a pitching duel, which came down to the Fillies capitalizing on fielding miscues from the Barons to score the only run of the game. The deciding sequence began when ABAC's  Alli Eidson reached on an error. After moving up on a sacrifice, Eidson came home later in the inning on another Brewton-Parker error in left field, giving the visitors a 1-0 lead. Natalie O'Neal turned in one of her strongest performances of the season despite the loss, working all seven innings and striking out nine. She allowed four hits, one run, and one walk over 95 pitches, with the run being unearned.

The Barons will prepare for their next conference series, a doubleheader against the Night Hawks of Thomas University on April 3, 2026.
