MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University (BPCU) Barons baseball team traveled to take on the Crusaders of William Carey University (Miss.) on March 20, 2026. The Barons struggled in the series opener, dropping the game 11-1 in seven innings.
The Barons struck first at the top of the first inning, cashing in a quick scoring opportunity. Zach Carlton reached and came around to score on a single to right field from Caleb Strott, giving Brewton-Parker a 1-0 advantage. That early run, however, turned out to be the team's only offense of the night against William Carey right-hander Matthew Davis.
The Crusaders would quickly score two runs at the bottom of the first inning to take a lead that would last for the remainder of the game. Brewton-Parker's pitchers were forced to work under traffic most of the night as William Carey scored in six of the seven innings played. A pair of sacrifice flies in the fifth widened the gap to 6-1, and another sacrifice fly in the sixth made it 7-1. The Crusaders would score four runs in the bottom of the seventh to run-rule the Barons.
The Barons will look to bounce back in a doubleheader on March 21, 2026, against the Crusaders and try to steal the series.
