MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons softball team hosted the Spartanburg Methodist College Pioneers for a doubleheader on February 26, 2026, and despite their best efforts, were swept. The Barons struggled to get anything going in game one, dropping it 7-1, and while they managed to keep game two close, they were unable to close out the Pioneers and dropped game two 3-2.
Game one saw the Barons score first after Tori Wright scored on an Anna Green double in the bottom of the first inning. The Barons did their best to keep the Pioneers off the base paths, but errors and mistakes allowed them to score one in the top of the second to tie the game. The Pioneers grabbed another run in the top of the fourth and again in the sixth before breaking the game open with a four-run dagger in the top of the seventh to seal the game.
Game two saw the Barons control the game, with a great outing from Natalie O'Neil, who threw 7 complete innings. The Pioneers struck first, scoring a single run in the top of the second, which was answered by the Barons in the bottom of the third when Green hit a two RBI single to score Wright and Shelby Aiken. The Barons were unable to keep their fielding clean and gave up the tying run in the top of the sixth and the eventual winning run in the top of the seventh. The Barons were unable to string together many hits, finishing the game with just five.
Head Coach Madison Herrin reflected on the day, saying, "Tough loss tonight. We had a tough time getting things rolling offensively."
The Barons will look to regroup when they host Wesleyan College for a doubleheader on March 3, 2026.
