Barons Drop Series vs Stallions

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Barons faced off against the ABAC Stallions in a doubleheader on February 22, 2025, to determine who would take the SSAC series. After dropping game one on Friday, the Barons bounced back to take game one on Saturday 15-10 in the seven-inning game. During the second game of the doubleheader, the Barons lost heartbreakingly in extra innings, 12-14 in the 11th inning.

During game one, the Barons' lineup was on fire, with standout performances from several players. Marquette Gibson led with three runs, while Jeremi Lara contributed four RBIs. Jordan Rahn and Kendell Wade provided power at the plate, each hitting a home run, with Rahn's being a momentous three-run shot. Carson Kirby also added two RBIs, helping to secure the win.

Starter Grant Cochran pitched for the Barons and played a crucial role in the team's defensive strategy. The game's turning point came from a massive 4-run rally in the 3rd inning, followed by an unstoppable 6-run surge in the 5th inning, which ultimately put the game out of reach for the Stallions.

Game two saw the Barons fall behind early, 9-1, before the fifth inning. The Barons showed their resilience by battling back and tying the game up in the bottom of the ninth at 12 after scoring four runs. However, the Barons were unable to score and walk it off, and they gave up two runs in the 11th that proved to be too much to overcome.

Coach Aaron Larsen reflected on the team's play, "Really liked the response from our group in the first game. We came ready to play. I liked our response to battle back in game two after digging ourselves a hole," Despite the team's resilience, Larsen reflected on the team's need to be better late in games, "We need to be better in close-out situations. We put ourselves in a position to steal a series sweeping the day but failed to execute in crunch time," The team's focus on being better late in games will come in handy as the season progresses if they can address the issue.

As the Barons prepare for their next game on the road in Blue Mountain, they look to improve in the areas they fell short and continue to be solid at the plate. With a record of 8-5 and 3-3 in conference play, the Barons look to have a solid outing on the road to set them up as their conference schedule continues. The Barons faced off against the ABAC Stallions in a doubleheader on February 22, 2025, to determine who would take the SSAC series.
