Barons Draw Split vs Mariners

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Barons hosted the College of Coastal Georgia Mariners in a doubleheader on February 14, 2025. The Barons dropped the first game in the 11th inning with a score of 5-4. The Barons managed to rally and bounce back in game two defeating the Mariners 3-1 in game two.

Game one saw a stellar pitching performance from Kaylee Odum going 10.1. The Barons also saw key contributions from Abbey Flowers, Hailey Gabrich, and Cailiyn Snellgrove, who all drove in runs in game one. Despite their best efforts the two runs the Mariners scored in the 11th was too much for the Barons to overcome.

In game two the Barons set the tone early, putting a run on the board in the first inning. Coastal Georgia responded with a run in the third inning. However, the Barons didn't let up the pressure, benefiting from solid base running, particularly from Tori Wright who stole a total of two bases and scored twice. Key RBI singles from Abbey Flowers and Shelby Aiken in the succeeding innings helped secure and extend the lead for Brewton-Parker.

Natalie O'Neal stood out on the mound as the starting pitcher, effectively holding the Mariners at bay throughout the game. Additional commendations were given to T. Wright and L. Bradshaw for their strategic base stealing that contributed significantly to the Barons' offensive dynamics.

Head Coach Madison Herrin shared his thoughts on the team's performance, "The team fought hard today to get a split with a good Coastal Ga. team. We saw some good things today from our pitching staff. They all threw the ball well. We also had great energy and showed a lot of fight. This is a great team, and we love to work as a team," The Barons look to build off the split and bring the energy from their game two victory over to Saturday's doubleheader.

Looking ahead, the Barons are set to continue their momentum as they face Truett McConnell on February 15, back at their home ground in Mount Vernon. As the team strives to build on their current  record, fans are filled with anticipation for the next chapter in the Barons' season.
