Barons Win Doubleheader to Steal Series from Skyhawks

MOUNT VERNON, February 15, 2025 — The Brewton-Parker Barons bounced back after the loss on Friday evening, taking both doubleheader games to steal a conference series win from the Skyhawks. The Barons came out swinging, scoring in the first five innings of game one. The Barons went on to win 12-3. The Barons then carried their momentum into game two, taking it 5-3 to complete the reverse sweep and take the series.

In game one, the Barons were led at the plate by Carson Kirby, who went 2-4 and drove in a run, and Marquette Gibson, who went 2-4 with three RBIs. The Barons also saw Kendell Wade go 2-3 and have two RBIs.

Grant Cochran, Brewton-Parker's starting pitcher, delivered a strong performance, helping to set the tone for the day and keeping the opponents in check throughout the game.

Game two was marked with standout performances by Carson Kirby, Kendell Wade, and Jack Morris, who all scored. Kendell Wade had another 2-4 performance and drove in an RBI. The Barons were led from the mound by Robin Haven, who came away with the win, throwing 4.0 and only giving up two earned runs. Carlos Rodriguez came in to close out the game for the Barons in the ninth, striking out all three batters he faced to end the game in dominant fashion.

Coach Aaron Larsen shared his thoughts on the doubleheader, "I'm really proud of how our guys responded. We struggled yesterday but learned from it, and they showed up ready to play today. The bats were on fire in game one, and we carried that energy into game two. Point played well and challenged us, but we managed to close out better in game two. Los (Carlos Rodriguez) came in big for us with that save. It feels good to start conference play with a series win. We will refocus and get ready for ABAC next week," said the Barons' coach, reflecting on his team's performance and upcoming challenges.

The Barons look to carry this momentum into their next encounter against Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) scheduled for February 21 at Mount Vernon, aiming to continue their successful season.
