MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - In a thrilling regular-season basketball game at Gillis Gymnasium on December 4, 2025, the Brewton-Parker Christian University Lady Barons were edged out by the College of Coastal Georgia Mariners, with a final score of 90-86. Despite leading for most of the game, the Lady Barons could not secure a win, moving their season record to 0-9 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The game started strong for the Lady Barons, who quickly established an early lead with an early three-pointer from
Ja'Ka'Yah Draughn. The first quarter closed with the Lady Barons leading 25-23. By halftime, Brewton-Parker had extended their advantage to 48-34, thanks to effective inside plays and key layups. However, the Mariners kept the pressure with consistent free-throw shooting.
The second half saw Brewton-Parker maintain their lead, bolstered by a stringent defense, and they led by 13 points in the third quarter, ending 65-58. However, the fourth quarter marked a drastic shift as the Mariners staged a formidable comeback, capitalizing on the Lady Barons' turnovers.
Top performers for the Lady Barons included
Chasity Degale with 20 points,
Andranique Stewart with a double-double of 18 points and 17 rebounds, and
Ja'Ka'Yah Draughn contributing 11 points and five assists. Despite these efforts, turnovers cost the Lady Barons their first win of the season.
