MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University Lady Barons suffered a tough defeat against the #23 Southeastern University Fire with a final score of 84-53 at The Furnace on December 16, 2025. This regular-season basketball game saw the Lady Barons struggle against a dominant Southeastern team, falling behind early and not recovering.
The first quarter started unfavorably for the Lady Barons as Southeastern quickly took the lead. Their offensive streak extended their lead to 18 points at the end of the first quarter, leaving Southeastern ahead 30-12. In the second quarter, the Lady Barons attempted a comeback, narrowing the gap slightly through free throws, but Southeastern maintained control, finishing the half at 50-28.
The third quarter was an intense defensive battle, with both teams struggling to score, though Southeastern extended its lead to 61-36 by the end of the period. In the final quarter, despite the Lady Barons' efforts to catch up, Southeastern secured the win, 84-53.
Notable efforts from the Lady Barons included
Ja'Ka'Yah Draughn, who led in points with 13 and assists with two.
Andrian Stewart was also a standout, leading in rebounds with 12 and contributing defensively with three steals.
Despite the defeat, Coach
Steve Edwards acknowledged the Southeastern team's strengths and expressed a focus on improvement during the break. "We were outclassed by a really good Southeastern team. We are really inconsistent, and it's impossible to beat really good teams that way. We will use the break to get better and to get whole. We plan to hit the ground running after the break."
The Lady Barons are on Christmas break and will be before their next game. The Lady Barons are set to face the University of West Georgia in an exhibition on December 28, 2025, in Carrollton, Ga., looking to improve on their current season record of 2-11.
