MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Christian University Barons women's wrestling team competed at the Wasp Open in Emory, Va. The Barons saw several standout performances during the open, including a second-place finish and a third-place finish.
Diandra Tejada took home second place in the 103 lbs weight class after her 3-1 performance. Rubie Barton took home third place at the 207 lbs weight class after a 3-2 record on the day. The Barons also saw Kathleen Fisher go 3-2 but did not reach the podium. Anaya String and Tanjer Smith, who both went 1-2.
Head Coach Josh Sturgill reflected on the team's performance. "We had a small crew this week with finals and sickness, but these ladies came to compete today! We took risks we've been training for, and they paid off. A lot of great things are happening for our team, and these ladies are leading the way. I am very excited for what comes next our way in 2026."
The Barons women's wrestling team is officially on Christmas break. The Barons' next competition will be on January 10, 2025, at the SVU Open in Buena Vista, Va.
