MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - In a challenging non-conference matchup, the Brewton-Parker Christian University Lady Barons faced off against the Xavier University of Louisiana Gold Nuggets on November 15, 2025, at the Eagles' Nest in Marietta, Ga.. Despite the back-and-forth match, the Lady Barons were unable to overcome the Gold Nuggets, falling 69-74 and dropping their season record to 0-6.
The Lady Barons kicked off the game, grabbing an early lead by the end of the first half, up 22-19, but the Gold Nuggets managed to overcome the Lady Barons' defense and take the lead going into the break, 37-31. The Lady Barons and Gold Nuggets were evenly matched in the third quarter, each scoring 21, creating an intense fourth quarter. The Lady Barons did everything they could to find an equalizer, but were unable to overcome the Gold Nuggets' defense and lost the game.
Ja'Ka'Yah Draughn was the leading scorer for the Lady Barons, dropping 17 points, and was closely followed by Chasity Degale. The Lady Barons struggled to shoot from beyond the arc, and the Gold Nuggets were able to capitalize on it. Despite their struggles shooting the ball, the Lady Barons were able to rally and were fantastic from the free-throw line, capitalizing on their opponents' mistakes.
Head Coach Steve Edwards shared his thoughts following the game. "We played well enough to win today. Our fight was good today, and we are getting better. We saw some good things this weekend, and I believe we will reap the benefits of our current struggles right now. I like our team, and we will get rolling soon."
The Lady Barons kick off conference play on the road, taking on Life University on November 22, 2025, in Marietta, Ga.. The conference showdown will be the Lady Barons' opportunity to start conference play with a win and secure their first victory of the season.
