Lady Barons Charge to Victory Over Knights of Middle Georgia

MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Lady Barons started off the second half of their season and rung in the new year with a conference win over the Knights of Middle Georgia State University on the road. The Lady Barons traveled to Cochran, Ga. to face off against the Knights and took the game 80-66 on January 4, 2025. The Lady Barons look to carry this momentum into the new semester and the rest of their schedule.

The Lady Barons kicked off the game with an intense focus that helped carry them into the half with a lead of 35-25 over the Knights. The final buzzer saw Brewton-Parker ahead by 12 points, a testament to their offensive strategies. The Lady Barons were lead on offense by Destanee Wright, alongside Jasmine Leynard, both delivered impressive performances by each putting 19 points on the board. Kaziah Terrell also chipped in 16 points on the path to the Lady Barons victory.

Destanee Wright was not only the leading scorer but also excelled on the defense side of the ball with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. The game saw stand out performances on defense from Tori Dorsey who secured 9 rebounds. A pivotal moment came at 08:37 in the fourth quarter when Brewton-Parker expanded their lead to 18 points, the largest in the game and rode their momentum the rest of the way.

Coach Steve Edwards commented on the team's performance, stating, "It's always good to get a win on the road in our league. We showed glimpses of dominance but we also have areas where we have to be better. I like our group and we are close to having all of our pieces." Coach Edwards remarks highlight the ability of the team to continue to grow and get better as the second half of the season kicks off. The Lady Barons look forward to getting more of their pieces back for a push not only for the. conference but the national tournament.

Looking ahead, the Lady Barons are set to face Thomas University on January 7, 2025, in Thomasville, Georgia. With their current upswing in conference performance, the Brewton-Parker team aims to ride their winning momentum the rest of the way in the second half of the season.
