MOUNT VERNON, Ga - The Barons went on the road to start the season and traveled to play the Middle Georgia State Knights on January 31 at Stuckey Field. The Barons struggled to keep pace with a dominant Knights squad. The Barons managed to put three runs on the board, thanks to efforts by
Zach Carlton,
Marquette Gibson, and
Michael Son, with
Michael Son hitting a 2RBI bomb to centerfield. Unfortunately, the Barons were unable to overcome the deficit.
Brewton-Parker's starting pitcher,
Brandon Russell, encountered difficulties from the outset, being unable to find his rhythm and setting the tone for the rest of the contest. Coach
Aaron Larsen reflected on the day's events, noting the challenges faced by the team. "Not the start we had in mind today. We struggled to find the zone and that never helps. We dug ourselves a hole we couldn't climb out of. Need to put this one behind us and refocus on our games tomorrow," said Larsen.
The Barons are set to face Spartanburg Methodist College tomorrow in Cochran, GA, hoping to bounce back and improve their current 0-1 record. The Barons have a double header tomorrow, and they are getting another chance against the Knights of Middle Georgia after taking on Spartanburg Methodist.
