MOUNT VERNON, Ga. - The Brewton-Parker Lady Barons hosted the Montreat College Cavaliers on January 14, 2025. The match saw several incredibly exciting multi-weight class exhibition matches between Montreat and Brewton-Parker. The event also served as the Lady Barons' senior night, honoring two seniors, Jaemesa Robinson and Katy Mathis. The electric atmosphere and incredible fan support helped propel the Lady Barons to victory over the Cavaliers, who won with a score of 24-23 in the tightly contested matchup.
Head Coach Joshua Sturgill shared his thoughts on the girl's performance, "It was a tough test for sure; Montreat came to scrap. Moving some of our ladies around to match weights and still be competitive needed to be done. All of our ladies competed their best and got a lot of key information to reflect on and focus on moving forward. We appreciate all the support from the staff who helped organize everything, and the crowd was amazing tonight! Our eyes and heads are high, and we are looking ahead to our next challenge at the Warrior Duals and Open in Indiana next weekend." The Lady Barons look to capitalize on the momentum gained from this win and carry it through to the remainder of their season.
The Lady Barons get back into action on January 24 and 25 on the road and look to take the next step. The win over Montreat brought the Lady Barons back to .500 on the season, and they look to get above .500 with the Warrior Duals. The Open on Sunday will also be a fantastic opportunity for the Lady Barons to gain more experience and hone their skills as they push for the MSC Conference Championships at the end of February.
