Lady Barons Fall Short Against Mobile Rams

MOUNT VERNON, January 11 - The Lady Barons hosted the Mobile Rams in conference play. Despite multiple lead changes, the Lady Barons were unable to stop the Mobile Rams' offense and ultimately fell short with a final score of 73-83.

The Lady Barons started the game trading chances with the Rams, keeping the game close for most of the first half. The Lady Barons went into the second quarter down just two points after a last-second shot from Braylee McMath gave the Rams the lead at 22-20. The Lady Barons tried to rally in the second quarter but could not stop Mobile's offense; going into the break down 35-47, the Rams could carry their lead for the remainder of the game. The Lady Barons cut the lead to two in the fourth quarter but never managed to regain the lead before the Rams went on to push the lead to ten with late fouls and free throws.

The Lady Barons were led by Angel Mcrae, who scored 16 points, and Jakayla Peeples and Destanee Wright, each contributing 15 points. However, Mobile's Braylee McMath dominated the stat sheet, scoring an impressive 47 points, helping carry the Rams to victory. Coach Steve Edwards reflected on the team's challenges, stating, "Mobile came in today and beat us. We gave up 47 points to one player tonight. She got everything she wanted tonight. I was disappointed in our effort to defend her today. Mobile is a good team, and we couldn't close today. We like our group, but we have to close games against good teams."

The Lady Barons will regroup and prepare for their next challenge as they travel to face Life University in Marietta, Ga., on January 16. Currently, Brewton-Parker holds a team record of 8-9 and is 4-2 in conference games. The Lady Barons are hopeful to return stronger and close out games better as they prepare for the rest of their schedule leading up to the conference tournament.
